Description

1985 KUBOTA L345DT Compact Utility Tractor - Kubota diesel engine, gear driven transmission with four gears, plus reverse, in two ranges, loader with pin-on bucket, rear PTO, rear 3PT., two-post ROPS with canopy. Ran the machine through several start cycles and couldn’t get it to fail—no starting issues showed up during testing. Looked into the PTO clutch concern next. Clutch pedal free play is within spec. Pulled the service access cover and immediately noticed a strong burnt-clutch smell inside the housing. Scoped the clutch area but couldn’t get a clear view of the components. At this point, the machine would need to be split to properly diagnose whether the clutch is stuck or damaged. Checked the right loader tilt cylinder rod and found significant scarring on the chrome. To ensure a reliable reseal, the rod would need to be rechromed. Performed scheduled service: changed engine oil and filter, hydraulic oil and filter, and replaced the fuel filter. Cleaned the transmission screen and verified transmission oil level—both checked out good. Coolant level is also good. Greased the entire machine, but noted three loader zerks that will not accept grease and will need to be replaced. Torqued the wheel hardware and loader main-frame bolts to factory spec. One loader frame bolt is broken off inside the transmission case. Installed a new key switch. Checked the front axle case and found the oil level low.
